Fifty years of tanks
Industrial Electric Heating Supply was founded more than fifty years ago by a chemical engineer and military veteran, and it has been specifying electric heating equipment for industrial tanks ever since. That opening fact explains most of how the company still operates. It was started by someone who thought about process fluids for a living, not by someone selling catalog parts, and the habit of starting from the chemistry rather than the part number never went away.
Over five decades that has meant a great many large flanged and tank heater jobs — chemical and plating tanks, acid and pickling lines, oil and heat transfer systems, multi-tank installations with a common control panel, and circulation heaters in the hundreds of kilowatts. Large custom work is not an occasional departure from the normal business here. It is the normal business, and it has been for a long time.
What we do
Industrial Electric Heating Supply supplies and builds electric heating equipment for industrial tanks and process fluids. The work on this site is the custom side: immersion and circulation heaters engineered for a specific tank, a specific liquid and a specific temperature, rather than picked off a shelf.
That means every job starts with the same conversation — what is in the tank, how hot does it need to be, how fast, and what are the tank dimensions. From there the kilowatt rating, sheath material, watt density and terminal enclosure get worked out, and the heater gets built to those numbers.
How we work
The sizing comes with the quote. Not just a price and a part number — the kilowatt calculation, the sheath material and the reason for it, and the watt density check. If you want to verify it, everything needed to do that is published in the engineering section.
We will tell you when the answer is cheaper than a heater. A lid on an open hot tank often saves more energy than the extra kilowatts you were about to buy. Sometimes the right recommendation is insulation and a smaller heater.
We would rather ask about the liquid than take a part number. If an element failed early, an identical replacement fails again. Sending the chemistry instead of the model number is how that gets fixed.
Small on purpose. Two people, father and son. You talk to whoever is doing the engineering, and there is nobody in between. Between us that is a lot of accumulated tanks, and most of the useful judgement in this trade is pattern recognition — having seen the failure before it happens to you.
What we also supply
Beyond custom-built heaters we stock and distribute heating equipment and controls from Chromalox, Watlow, Tempco, Indeeco, Ogden, ITT Vulcan, Accutherm and Fastheat, with temperature controls from Honeywell, Partlow, West, Athena, Robertshaw, Fenwal and Barber-Coleman. If a standard product is the right answer for your tank, that is what we will quote.

Do you build heaters or just sell them?
Both. Custom immersion and circulation heaters are built to the specification developed for your tank — immersion length, sheath material, watt density, kilowatt rating, voltage and enclosure. We also distribute standard heaters and controls from Chromalox, Watlow, Tempco and others, and will quote a standard product when it is genuinely the right answer.
What size jobs do you take?
From a single small tank heater through multi-tank systems with a common control panel and large flanged or circulation heaters in the hundreds of kilowatts. Large custom flange and tank heater work has been a core part of the business across more than fifty years, so unusual requirements are welcome rather than a problem. The custom engineering work is where the value is.
How long has the company been in business?
More than fifty years. It was founded by a chemical engineer and military veteran, and it has specified electric tank heating equipment continuously since. It is still family run — currently father and son.
Do you ship outside Kansas City?
Yes, throughout the United States and Canada. The specification work happens by phone and email using your tank dimensions and liquid details, so being remote does not change the outcome.
Can you help if I do not know what I need?
That is the normal starting point. Send what you do know — what is in the tank, roughly how big it is, how hot it needs to be — and the rest gets worked out from there. If you are missing a number, we will tell you which one and how to get it.
What information do you need to quote a heater?
Liquid and concentration, starting and target temperature, heat-up time required, tank inside dimensions and liquid depth, volume in gallons, tank material, whether the tank is covered or insulated, available voltage and phase, and area classification if the location is classified. Partial information is still enough to start.
